Look at the images below: which one(s) best represent the look you get if anyone mentions E&D or asks you to go on E&D training?
I assure you that the vast majority of people will not be jumping for joy! One of the reasons for this is that most E&D training focusses primarily on the legislative aspect, on the can and can't dos and the consequences of making wrong decisions. This is very negative and results in staff being 'frightened', 'suspicious' and 'insecure' of the motives of E&D. Worse, there is a widespread belief that E&D results in staff being employed who otherwise would not be. Most E&D courses are merely tick box exercises and are often a mandatory component in a range of staff induction procedures. Is it any wonder that most people do not then jump for joy at the thought of all things E&D? I hope my website shows the importance and necessity of embedding E&D into all our lives and beliefs as a routine (not just in the workplace) and results in people changing their minds and embracing E&D. Enjoy the journey!
